Description:

This early FN rifle belonged to the Spanish monarch, King Alfonso XIII, renowned as a hunter and sportsman. Designed by John Browning this rifle was made in America by Remington and sold as the Model 8. FN sold it in Europe as the Model 1900. Production was quite limited with less than 5000 produced. The matte rib barrel has a beaded blade front sight and fixed notch rear sight. Action, barrel, and frame bear standard Belgian commercial proofs. The walnut forearm features multi-point checkering. The walnut pistol grip stock has sling swivels and serrated horn buttplate with “FN” monogram. The leather slipcase is embossed with the Royal Cipher of King Alfonso XIII, a “Crown/A/XIII/2”. The right side of the stock bears a paper inventory label of the Spanish Royal Collection. Provenance: The personal collection of King Alfonso XIII. Genuine Royal firearms rarely come to market as they normally go into national collections. FN #346 would be a centerpiece in any collection of semi-automatic rifles or Browning firearms.

Rating Definition:

Fine (missing parts) with 85% plus original blue finish areas of light surface scratches, scattered nicks and dings, consistent with careful use in the field by the King. Wood is fine with the expected light to moderate scuffs and dents. The action is missing the magazine follower and spring.
