Description:

This pistol has the standard late markings and features of the Model 1903. It was shipped on November 5, 1941, to the Royal Netherlands Indies Commission in New York City in a 200 gun shipment. The Netherlands purchased approximately 6,800 Colt Model 1903 Pocket pistols for use in the Netherlands East Indies (present day Indonesia). In 1942, Indonesia was invaded by the Japanese and Dutch residents were placed in internment camps. Some four million people were killed as a result of the Japanese invasion. After the war, Indonesians refused to allow the Dutch to recolonize the islands and eventually won their independence after several years of guerilla warfare.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% original blue. The pistol has only light handling and storage marks, along with a few slight scattered spots of light pitting present at the edges. The grips are also excellent and have crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and the mechanism is excellent. Given that it was shipped to the Commission in late 1941, this pistol's high condition may be owed to the fact that it never reached Indonesia.
