Description:

This is a very rare early production Model 1900 DWM Swiss Contract Luger with the unrelieved frame. This is one of only 2,000 Model 1900 Swiss commercial Lugers manufactured, this specific pistol being a very early example with the very first "unrelieved type" frame with the early "wide checkered" safety lever and narrow trigger. These Lugers represent the very first commercial contract pistol sold by DWM and purchased by Switzerland. This Model 1900 Luger has all the early features such as: the dished toggles with toggle lock, a flat/recessed breech bolt, no stock lug, grip safety, early style larger flat safety lever with coarse checkering, early narrow trigger, flat main spring, and fast taper 4 3/4 inch barrel. These pistols also have the "Swiss Cross" in a sunburst on top of the chamber area with toggle marked "DWM". The left side of the barrel extension has the Crown "B" and "U" with the underside of the barrel having the Crown "B," "U," and "G" proofs along with the bore diameter and serial number. This example still retains the original early "V" notch rear sight and standard inverted "v" front sight that is fitted with a rare sheet metal front sight cover. The front of the frame and underside of the barrel have the full serial number (409) and the various small parts all are correctly numbered with the last two digits (09) of the serial number, to include the back sides of each grip panel. It is complete with a early nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially refinished (grip straps) with balance of pistol retaining 85% of the slightly faded original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The various smaller parts retain 50% of their straw colors with even honest original fading. The walnut grips are also in very fine condition with nice original checkering, showing wear and light handling marks on both sides from handling and actual use. Although this example shows some actually honest handling and probably firing over the years, it is still a very rare early Swiss Model 1900 contract Luger with an "unrelieved frame" that is in all original unaltered condition.
