Description:

This is a very fine example of an early S/42 "G" code Mauser Luger pistol that was issued to the German Navy. These G-date Lugers were produced in 1935 using the secret G-date code over the chamber area. This was the second year of Germany's rearmament program. This example is correctly marked on the front grip strap with Navy property mark: "O.2097", which indicated this Luger was issued to the Baltic Sea Fleet. The Navy marked Lugers were all in the d, e and f block of serial numbers. As noted the chamber area has the single "G" code and the front toggle is marked "S/42". The right side of the barrel extension is marked with a single "Eagle/211" proofmarks next to a boxed 92 proof next to a single Eagle firing proof. It is numbered in the military manner with the full serial number on the major components, with the last two digits on the various smaller parts. It has matching numbers except the magazine (as noted) and the grips which are unnumbered. It is fitted with an all blued unmarked magazine, with a repinned aluminum base marked: "4251/e" with no Navy property mark. It has the blued finish with checkered walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially refinished with balance of pistol retaining 80% of the faded original blue finish overall with wear and blue loss on the edges and high points with blue loss and thinning on the side plate hump and frame rails with browning/oxidation on the grip straps. The muzzle area shows some old cold blue touch up. The various smaller parts retain 60% of their straw colors overall. The grips are in very fine condition overall with nice visible checkering mixed with some minor nicks and handling marks with a couple pressure dents on the center of the right grip.
