Description:

One of the signature edged weapons of the Western Allies, these two F-S fighters represent the early development of the weapon, with the First Pattern in particular produced directly by collaboration between Fairbairn, Sykes and Wilkinson Sword, the first batch paid for by Fairbairn himself. Both knives feature a double-edged needle point blade, a solid steel guard, metal hilt with fine contour, and a brown leather sheath with metal tip. 1) Second pattern F-S knife, 11 3/4 inches long with a 6 3/4 inch blued steel blade, flat oval guard, ribbed and beaded brass grip with "broad arrow/1" stamped near the guard, and a blackened brass sheath tip. 2) First pattern Wilkinson Sword F-S knife, 11 7/8 inches overall with a 6 3/4 inch blade, etched "WILKINSON/SWORD/CoLtd/LONDON" on one side of the ricasso and "THE/F-S/FIGHTING/KNIFE" on the reverse. The nickel finished hilt shows the early "wavy S" pattern guard and a knurled grip. The sheath tip is nickel finished, with mounting tabs on the back.

Rating Definition:

1) Fine with some light Arsenal finished-over pitting on the guard, mild wear on the grip and a torn retention strap on the sheath. The sheath mounting tabs have been removed. 2) Excellent with patches of verdigris on the grip and some light handling marks overall.
