Description:

Originally established as the personal guard of the Prussian King in 1740, the Gardes Du Corps would continue to serve following German Unification as bodyguards to the Emperor as well as seeing front-line combat when the Empire went to war. This combat service would include World War I, with most of the Garde cavalry dismounting and fighting in the trenches and even after many of the formations were disbanded former members of the Garde served as volunteers during the chaotic early days of the Weimar Republic. Brass construction with silver edging, a short brim and a "lobster tail" style neck protector. The helm is topped with a three dimensional, silver Imperial Eagle, perched on a nickel finished plate and on the front is a silver burst emitting from a silver and polychrome enamel Order of the Black Eagle icon, with text "MIT GOTT FUR KONIG UND VATER LAND -1860-" (with God for King and Fatherland) arranged around it. Brass scaled leather chinstrap, with cloverleaf designs and black and silver cockades at the hinges. Lined with green leather inside the brim and red felt in the tail with a brown leather sweatband, tan cloth lining and "1916" stamped inside the crown near the retention nut for the eagle.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with some brown discoloration of the brass concentrated on the sides and rear of the crown and a well aged patina on the silver. The enamel on the crest is solid and some cracking is present on the chinstrap leather. The interior is good, with mild wear.
