Description:

This lightweight fowling piece was manufactured circa 1780 and was likely designed with a young boy in mind. The overall build is much smaller and lighter weight than would be found on a typical musket or fowling piece from the 18th century. It was likely used by a young boy for hunting small game such as squirrel and rabbit. It has a blade front sight, dished rear sight, unmarked barrel, and a "BAUDOUIN/A ST AMOUR" marked lock. The 3/4 length stock has sling swivels and a skeletonized butt. It has a ebonized ramrod with brass tip and iron worm.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel displays a mixture of faded original brown finish, brown patina, and gray patina and has some small patches of minor surface pitting and oxidation. The lock is mostly bright and has areas of darker patina. The other fittings have a mix of gray and brown patina along with some oil staining. The wood is very good as re-oiled and has several scattered dings and light scratches along with some slight cracks, and moderate wear near the flash pan and on the bare butt. The lock is functional and has crisp markings.
