Description:

This rifle was produced circa 1880 by Horace Warner and William Lowe of Syracuse, New York. The right barrel flat is marked "H. WARNER. .. WM. LOWE./SYRACUSE/N.Y." The heavy barrel brings the overall weight of the rifle to 28 pounds. It is equipped with a turned down muzzle slotted for the included false muzzle and has a spirit level near the center. The false muzzle has an extension that blocks the scope to prevent accidental firing while it is still installed and has studs onto which the included bullet starter locks. The underside of the barrel has a short adjustable bi-pod. The 33 1/2 inch scope is unmarked except for a "W.M." (William Malcolm) stamp near the rear. It has a smooth walnut buttstock with straight wrist and crescent buttplate, a spurred trigger guard with grip extension, a bolster with square headed cleanout screw, a single set trigger, and an unmarked back action lock plate.

Rating Definition:

Good as period refinished. The barrel and upper tang retain 75% of the brown finish. The barrel can be removed by hand and has tooling marks, dings, and signs of period modifications. The buttplate retains 75% of the nickel plating with some small sections of visible brass and has an aged patina overall. The scope has a mottled brown patina and need some work. The rear lens is cracked and broken with a chip missing. The remaining components have a primarily a gray patina. There are some spots of light oxidation and mild pitting. The stock is good as repaired and some minor dings and scratches and a few hairline cracks. The action and trigger are functional but need some work. The markings are crisp.
