Description:

This revolver was produced circa 1850 by "HOLLIS & SHEATH. LONDON" as indicated by the barrel marking. The design is similar to Baker's "Transition" revolver. It has a blade front sight, light muzzle engraving, scroll engraving, sighting cut out in the bar hammer, checkered walnut grips and a cap compartment in the butt. "H&S" is stamped on the left side of the back strap near the frame. The serial number is marked on the barrel lug and cylinder. The cylinder and barrel also have London proofmarks.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 80% of the original blue finish, while the finish has mostly faded elsewhere to a brown patina. The cylinder has muted case colors with a light blue appearance. There are spots of oxidation and various marks throughout. The grips are very good with some small nicks and chips and mostly crisp checkering. The action functions fine, but the cylinder does not always rotate reliably as is common. There is some marring of the hammer face. The markings and designs are crisp.
