Description:

Equipped with a tapered block front sight and a raised notch rear sight, the barrel shows an octagonal profile overall with a flared muzzle. The front of the barrel is adorned with an inlaid dragon in flight, 7 5/8 inches long, primarily gold with silver accents and a 1 5/8 inch diameter silver mon behind the rear sight, which appears to be the crossed feathers of the Asano clan. The Asano clan held Hiroshima Castle and the surrounding fief for most of the Edo era and had multiple prominent participants in the Japanese campaigns in Korea, which included Asano Naganori, the Lord of the famous "Forty-Seven Ronin," whose two-year revenge campaign would become one of the most repeated tales in Japanese legend and art. The external lock hardware is chiefly brass, with an iron match arm and flash pan. The stock is of mahogany construction, with a contoured grip section on the forearm, a matching colored ramrod, a brass finger rest behind the trigger and a series of stamped markings between the breech band and firing stud. A supplied translation stated that these markings translate to "7th year Ansci (tiger) year spring" and "7th year Kayu Ashiu (Awa Country)," representing a gap of 110 years.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The steel components show a brown and gray patina overall, with some scattered bright areas and spotting. The gold and silver inlay are in excellent condition showing a dark patina on the silver. The brass shows a well aged color overall, bright on the high points and where the hammer arm rubs against the metal. The stock is very fine with some minor crazing of the varnish and mild dings. The markings are sharp and crisp. Mechanically excellent.
