Four-lobed iron tsuba, with extensive cut-through bird and branch decoration and a single seppa on each side. The hilt features a green cord wrap over ho-oh bird menuki, gold and green lacquer fuchi, and a black lacquer kashira. Brown lacquer saya, with full coverage leather sleeve. The left side of the tang bears a "Showa" stamp over a 7-symbol signature, which is untranslated. 2) Signed Japanese sword, 30 3/4 inches overall with a 21 inch straight hamon blade with copper habaki. Round iron tsuba, with raised wheel designs, gold accents, and a copper seppa on each side. Hilt fittings are iron with gold accents, with a black cord wrap and gold accented fu dog menuki. The fuchi has a 5-figure signature with gold fill concealed by the tsuba, untranslated. Saya is covered in brown leather, with a single brass suspension ring. A 7-symbol signature is present on both sides of the tang, attributed by a previous owner as "Bizen Tatsumitsu".

Rating Definition:

1) Fine. The very fine blade shows a small amount of spotting and a tiny chip at the tip, with a few light scuffs and a strong hamon. Fittings are very good with some wear and staining on the wrap and scuffs and cracks on the leather. 2) Fair. The heavily polished blade shows some minor spotting overall, with a tiny chip in the edge about 10 1/8 inches down from the tip, strong hamon and active grain. The fittings are good, well worn with a dark patina on the iron components, some splits in the rayskin and scuffs and staining on the wrap and leather.
