Description:

The factory letter indicates the revolver shipped on November 2, 1880, to Schoverling, Daly & Gales in New York, New York, with a blue finish in .45 caliber in a shipment of 45 guns of the same type; the barrel length and grips are not listed but 7 1/2 inches and walnut grips would have been standard. The revolver has 75% coverage engraving consisting primarily of floral scrollwork with punch-dot backgrounds. The arabesque pattern at the rear of the cylinder and the design on the recoil shield is similar to the patterns on several Nimschke engraved revolvers but was done in the 20th Century to duplicate his work. He was responsible for many of the engraved revolvers sold by Schoverling, Daly & Gales. The standard early markings remain visible including the matching serial numbers. It is fitted with a set of smooth "one piece" style grips. The revolver comes in a modern bound case fitted to the gun with six .44 WCF cases (WRA and Western).

Rating Definition:

Very fine as custom engraved and replated. The revolver retains 98% plus of the nickel plating with some light handling and storage marks, a minor drag line on the cylinder, and light pitting in the cylinder stops. The several of the small components retains significant niter blue finish. The grips are very fine with light aging, age cracks, and varied tones. It is mechanically excellent and has crisp engraving and markings. The case is very good with mild storage wear overall and fading on the interior.
