Description:

This is a very desirable example of a DWM Model 1902 "American Eagle" Luger pistol. These Model 1902 Lugers are extremely rare in their fat barrel configuration as only 600-700 were ever produced, in total for commercial sales in the United States. This model was a continuation of the earlier 1902 commercial Luger however these were specifically intended for the U.S. market, as indicated by the presence of the "American Eagle" Crest. This pistol has the short old style frame with leaf springs and no stock lug, recessed breechblock, dished toggles with toggle lock and grip safety. The barrel extension is also the short model with the top of the chamber area roll marked with the prominent "American Eagle" crest, with the front toggle marked with the "DWM" logo. These are serial numbered in the commercial manner with the full serial number (22931) on the front of the frame, and underside of the barrel, with the partial serial number "31" stamped on the various small parts. It is fitted with checkered walnut grips, with each grips numbered "28" on the back side. Inside the front frame recess there is the typical small circled triangle proof. This example has the unmarked polished lower safety area with the correct bright polished (straw colored) flat, old style extractor. This Luger is complete with an original unmarked, nickel plated magazine body with wooden base stamped "Cal 9m/m". It has a rust blued finish with the straw colored smaller parts.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially restored (side plate and barrel) with the balance retaining 98% of the original blue finish with a hint of edge and high spot wear overall. The various smaller parts retain 70% of their original straw colors overall on all the parts with some minor fading and color loss on the edges. The grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering and only minor handling marks. It has matching numbers on the various parts except the magazine and grips as noted above. Mechanically excellent. A desirable representative example of a DWM Model 1902 "fat barreled" Commercial Luger.
