Description:

This is just a fabulous example of an embellished DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine that is complete with a matching walnut shoulder stock. The complete Luger carbine and shoulder stock have both been lavishly custom engraved that includes four separate "Gold Inlaid" animals on the pistol. These early 1902 Lugers are extremely rare as only approximately 2500 were made in total. The engraving on this example covers over 75% of the metal surface of the pistol to include the full frame, barrel extension, top of the toggle train, breech block and 3/4 of the length of the barrel. The engraving is a very unique style that features a wide scroll pattern, that is complimented with numerous geometric and cross-hatched designs and four gold inlaid animals with some very fine line gold inlaid borders. The four gold inlays depict a large dahl sheep, a crouching African lion, a standing grizzly bear and a gray squirrel on top of the chamber area. These early carbines all have the desirable 11 3/4 inch barrel with DWM factory installed frame hanger that retains the small walnut forend, which houses a small spring accelerator that helps cycle the longer carbine length barrel. They also have various other early rare features such as: the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle locks, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The top of the chamber has the squirrel inlay as noted above, with the front toggle marked with the "DWM" logo for the "Deutsche Waffen und Munitions" factory, which has also been inlaid in gold wire. The full serial number (24289) is stamped on the underside of the frame hanger, and the last two digits of the serial number (89) are stamped on the various other smaller parts. The forend is also numbered inside the cutout for the frame extension with "89". It is fitted with standard checkered walnut grips. This beautiful early Luger carbine is complete with its original and matching walnut shoulder stock and attaching iron. Additionally the attaching iron has also been fully engraved with the same matching engraving pattern as the pistol. The pistol is complete with a single nickel plated magazine with an original unnumbered walnut base. All of the metal surfaces have been given a subdued, French-Gray type metal finish after the engraving was completed.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as custom embellished with all the metal surfaces having the French Gray type finish as noted above with beautiful relief chiseled engraving and gold inlays. The stock, and forend are both in fine condition with a nice honey colored walnut finish with nice distinct checkering on both pieces. The grips are only in good condition with both showing a little darker/oiler condition with visible checking on both sides showing some light pressure dents. Just an outstanding superb, one of a kind custom engraved DWM Model 1902 Luger Carbine.
