Description:

This is a beautiful restored example of a DWM Model 1900 "American Eagle" commercial Luger pistol that is complete with a custom made DWM retailers case. The case itself measures approximately 6 x 11 inches and the inside lid of the case has a 3 x 5 1/2 inch label that reads: "DEUTSCH WAFFEN UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN/BERLIN/Morgan & Scott, Ltd./IMPORTERS/Firearms for Gentry/1400 Stark's building, Cape Town/South Africa". This Luger that has the large and distinctive "American Eagle" roll marked on top of the chamber area with the DWM markings on the front toggle. This pistol has all the early desirable Luger features, such as the early long frame with the flat recoil spring, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, recessed breechblock, fast tapered barrel, grip safety, and no stock lug. They had superb hand fitted parts with the beautiful pre-war high polish rust blued finish with the straw colored small parts with checkered walnut grips. It has the first pattern safety, where the lower safety area is unmarked and left in the bright polish. It is correctly serial numbered in the commercial fashion with the serial number (19009) stamped under the barrel and on the front of the frame which is also marked "GERMANY". It has the matching last two digits of the serial number (19) stamped on the various smaller parts. As noted this beautiful Luger is currently housed in a light brown, alligator skin type leatherette cover with heavy brass reinforcing corners, hinges and locks. The cases itself has a light brown almost golden colored felt interior/lining with a cleaning rod and one 50 round box (full) of Winchester 7.65 mm Luger ammunition.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially refinished (grip straps) with the balance of gun retaining 90% of the blue finish overall with maybe a hint of edge wear. The various smaller parts retain 60% of their straw colors just fading from age. The walnut grips are in original condition with nice distinct/sharp checking on both sides with only a couple of minor handling marks. The relined, relabeled case is in fine condition with the outside of the case showing all of its rough texture leatherette cover on the outside. The reinforcing corners, hinges and locks are all intact. The inside of the case does show some minor wear and discoloration in the lid and where the pistol rests, which is what you would expect for a Luger pistol.
