Description:

This is an example of a post WWI Luger pistol that was rebuilt at the German Army Depot or ordnance facility at Kassel. At one time these were thought to be some kind of Nazi Sneak Luger. Then it was thought that they were used by the early "SA" or "SS" officer's training school, however all of those theories have been disproved as none of them could be identified or linked to any of the weapons. Instead they have been identified as actually being Lugers that went through a complete rebuilding/overhauled to a higher standards for use by the early Weimar era German Army. The two depot facilities that have been identified at that time were the Heers-Zeugamt at both Kassel or Spandau and then the Simson Company. These lugers were reworked during the 1924-1930 and used a variety of parts and or assemblies, both used and new manufacture. This Luger started out as a WWI Erfurt luger, possibly an Artillery model as it has the small notch on the front edge of the barrel extension for the artillery rear sight. It has now been fitted with an unnumbered Erfurt 4 inch barrel. It has the standard "Crown/ERFURT" marked toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the old "Crown/RC" and "Crown/Script D" proofs both from the original Erfurt manufacture. The right side of the barrel extension has the same "Crown/RC" and "Crown/D" proofs followed by a Weimar era Eagle firing proof. The right side of the barrel also has the same single Weimar era/Simson & Co. single Eagle firing proof directly inline with the same proof on the barrel extension. The underside of the barrel is marked with only the bore diameter "8,82". The majority of all the other parts have some form of the old WWI era, "Crown/Script D" proof typically of those associated with Erfurt manufacture. It has a rust blued finish with straw colored small parts and is fitted with a set of walnut grips. It is complete with one magazine that has a polished magazine body with an aluminum base stamped with an "Eagle/6" Simson proof over serial number "1115".

Rating Definition:

Very fine as reworked with 85% of an arsenal refurbished blue finish overall with some areas of fine pitting showing under the blue finish on the barrel and sides of the barrel extension. The smaller parts retain 70% of their subdued straw colors overall. The grips are in fine condition with nice visible checkering overall showing wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some minor handling marks. As noted it has all matching parts, except the grips, with varying sizes and types of number stamps as used by the Arsenal/depot. A desirable example of a 1933 K I marded rework Luger.
