Description:

This is a very scarce "Mauser Banner" Police Luger with the early "Eagle/F" police acceptance proof. As identified in Jan Still's book "Third Reich Lugers" pg 146, these early Mauser Banner police Lugers with the "Eagle/F" police acceptance proofs were manufactured only in 1939 in two different serial number groups falling between the numbers 8989v-9690v and 4w-1162w (this Luger falls into the second group). A total of approximately 2,290 were manufactured. These pistols were procured as commercial Mauser Banner pistols that were accepted by the police for distribution to the new early created police units when Germany invaded the various countries in Europe. The top of the chamber is marked "1939", and the toggle has the correct Mauser Banner logo. The left side of the barrel extension has the early commercial "Crown/U" proof, and the right side has the correct Police "Eagle/P" acceptance proof. It has the standard safety and extractor markings and standard sights. The various parts all have the correct military style serial number sequence and placement and are all matching including the magazine. A replacement side plate has an "Eagle/6" Simson proofmark. The magazine is early chrome plated police magazine that is marked "Haenel Schmeisser" on the spine and is fitted with an aluminum base that is stamped: "3/15/" over a small letter "H" proof. The left grip is stamped with a large number "15" on the back side, and the right grip is stamped with only a letter "S".

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially refinished (cold blue on holster wear points) with 95% of the original blue finish on the balance, and loss on the side plate hump, front of the frame rails and the stock lug. The checkered walnut grips are in excellent condition with nice, distinct checking with some handling marks and nicks and numerous overruns in the lines. Mechanically excellent. This Luger has all matching numbers, including the magazine as noted above.
