Description:

This is a very fine example of a 1934 production, S/42 code Mauser "K" date Luger pistol. The K-Date P.08 Luger series were all manufactured in 1934 in four different subvariations with this example being in subvariation 3. There were a total of 10,930, "K" date Lugers manufactured and of that number only 3,850 were manufactured in the 5200-9100 serial number range. The K-date Lugers were the first to use the secret wartime code toggle markings intended to conceal Germany's rearmament in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. These early Luger pistols have a low survival rate as most saw service use on the Eastern front, with original examples being highly desirable. This example is classified as a Sub-variation "3" that has the mixed script and gothic markings. This example has the standard Script "K" date mark on the chamber area with the mixed Gothic "S" in "S/42" marked on the front toggle. It has standard military marked serial number on the major parts in addition to the Script "S" proofmark also found on some of the major parts. The right side of the barrel extension has the boxed "B/90 and B/91" acceptance stamps with an Eagle firing proof. The major components are all stamped with serial number "8355" with the last two digits (55) on the smaller parts. The pistol is complete with one original nickel plated magazine with an aluminum base, that is stamped with "8384/+/(partial) B/90" acceptance proof. This series of Luger had a rust blued metal finish with straw colored smaller parts and checkered walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% of the slightly faded original blue finish remaining overall with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the muzzle, front frame rails and stock lug areas with the finish browning out slightly on the grips straps, top of the barrel and barrel extension. The various smaller parts all retain 40% of their straw colors with slightly more color in the protected areas. The grips are also in very fair condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides showing light wear across the tops of the checkering with a minor nick/chip on the right side. This desirable Luger has matching numbers except the magazine as noted above.
