Description:

This is an early Mauser Banner commercial Luger pistol manufactured in 1940 as part of a small contract for commercial sales intended for export to neutral countries. It is pictured and discussed on pages 284 and 285 of Lugers at Random by Kenyon and is identified as part of the Ralph E. Shattuck Collection. It has the standard 1940 dated chamber area and the Mauser Banner logo on the front toggle. It is chambered in 7.65 Luger, but the barrel is unmarked except for the serial number "6693" located on the underside. It has the standard commercial "eagle/N" proofs on the barrel extension and breechblock along with standard Gesichert/Geladen safety and extractor markings and the standard military-style serial number placement. It has a blued magazine body with a unmarked aluminum base and a primarily blue finish aside from the straw colored small parts and checkered walnut grips. The grips are unnumbered but are proofed "Eagle/655" on the back side of each panel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially refinished (cold blue on muzzle) with the balance of pistol retaining 95% of the slightly faded original blue finish with edge and high spot wear and some light thinning on the grip straps, frame rails and muzzle. The smaller parts retain 98% of their straw colors overall. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice sharp, distinct checkering and minor handling marks. This is a very nice looking and scarce early commercial Mauser Banner Luger.
