Description:

This is the early version of the famous G/K 43 series of semi-automatic rifles. These rifles were made in limited production early on in the war and ultimately proved to be too time-consuming to manufacture and produce. They employed a gas trap system mounted on the end of the rifle barrel that was originally designed off of the Bang system which employed a full length operating rod. This system proved too costly to produce and unreliable enough through the rough environment of the war. This semi-automatic function of this rifle and larger magazine capacity was highly desirable on the Eastern front. This specific rifle is fitted with an original ZF41 scope and reproduction mount. The right side of the receiver is marked G-41with the serial number and "ac 43" the war time code for the Walther factory. It has all machined parts, laminated stock and black resin (plastic) handguard. The rear sight base has the machined in scope rails to use this type of straddle mount. The walnut stock has a double Eagle 359 proof on the left side below the sling slot and also on the bottom below the pistol grip. The scope is marked on top "cag" over ZF41/1 and it is fitted with a set of sheet metal sun shades and a reproduction mount, which has no markings. It is complete with cleaning rod and original leather sling and leather lens covers.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 85% of the original wartime blue remaining with most of the exposed areas showing a even brown patina except for the bolt cover, which is mismatched (by two numbers). The stock is in very good condition overall with the usual handling marks and wear from field use and the rear 3-4 inches has been replaced with a section of walnut to repair a duffle bag cut. The visible numbers are all matching except for the bolt cover and the reproduction mount and leather lens covers. The optics are clear and sharp.
