Only an estimated 3,500 of these pistols were manufactured between 1880 and 1911. This extremely early example has the pre-1886 marking "J. STEVENS & CO. CHICOPEE FALLS MASS PAT. SEPT. 6, 1864" on the upper left barrel flat and has the low two digit serial number on the left side. It has a dovetailed blade and notch sights, checkered grips, and a standard hooked trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The pistol retains 90% plus of the slightly thinning original blue finish, 70% of the niter blue, and 95% plus of the original nickel plating. There are some scattered minor marks. The grips are also very fine with crisp checkering and slight handling marks. The action is excellent, and the markings are crisp.
