Description:

This handsome rolling block rifle is believed to have been the only rolling block produced by Waffenfabrik Steyr. It is engraved with attractive German style scroll and border engraving patterns on the action and buttplate along with some coordinating designs on the screws. It has open style blade front and folding ladder rear sights. The hammer has the Norwegian style safety "trigger" that allows the action to open. This mechanism prevents the breech from blowing open in the case of a ruptured case or other failure that might cause the standard Remington action to blow open. The top of the blued octagon barrel has "WAFFENFABRIK STEYR." inlaid in gold. A thin gold band is also inlaid at the breech. The action and remaining components are casehardened. The serial number is marked on the front of the action and a matching partial serial number is on the right side of the trigger. It is fitted with a checkered walnut forearm and straight wrist stock with large, slightly rollover cheekpiece and lightly curved carbine style buttplate. European style sling swivels are mounted to the bottom of the barrel and buttstock. Consignor states once a part of the framed single shot collection on Jack Appel.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 95% plus of the original polished, deep blue finish on the barrel, 99% plus of the gold lettering, and strong case colors. There is some minor edge wear overall, handling/storage marks, and some patches of minor oxidation. The wood is very good with sharp checkering and mostly smooth surfaces aside from some slight marks and scratches. There are chips absent at the junction with the upper tang and a slight crack on the right side of the forend. The action is excellent.
