Description:

This is a scarce example of a WWII Mauser factory test "UB" marked Luger P08 pistol. These test Lugers are very scarce as they were usually made up from old or out of tolerance parts that were assembled by the factory for internal test such as ammunition testing and special projects such as cutaways. These are easily identified by the poorly fitting parts and do not carry any final factory proof or acceptance marks. Additionally they have a large "Ub" stamped on top of the chamber which is though to mean "Ubung" for test or practice, combined with the "A" on the top, breech end of the barrel, which is felt to indicate "Anschuss" or accuracy, indicating accuracy testing. Additionally the right side of the barrel extension has a large "L W" stamped on it, (meaning unknown). This scarce example was originally a 1938 made luger with an "S/42" marked toggle train. It has been hand stamped with the serial numbers on tall the various parts, with a slightly larger serial number on some of the parts which may indicate it was extensively used with parts being replaced and renumbered by the Mauser factory. The luger has mostly matching numbers on the various parts (except the toggle train) however it does not have any firing or acceptance proofs, which is correct as it was intended to stay in the factory. The chamber is dated 1938 and the front toggle has the "S/42" wartime code for the Mauser factory. It retains its original grips with the grips numbered "1 and 2" on the back sides. It is fitted with blued "fxo/E 37" marked magazine with an aluminum base stamped "7021/s".

Rating Definition:

Fair as partially refinished, assembled (replaced, renumbered frame, side plate and takedown lever) with the balance retaining 30% of the blue finish overall with the frame having a gray patina finish overall with more blue finish on the barrel and barrel extension. The grips are in fair condition showing much wear and use with some visible checkering on the edges of the grips. A very scarce example of a Mauser factory "Ub" marked Test luger pistol.
