Description:

Around 2,500 of Warner carbines were manufactured by the Greene Rifle Works in Worcester, Massachusetts, to fill James Warner's second contract in early 1865. Most saw very little use due to the end of the war in May 1865, and around 2,500 Warner carbines (likely including some manufactured by Mass. Arms Co.) were sold to France for used during the Franco-Prussian War in the early 1870s. This example has the standard markings and features of the Greene variant and added "M.M." inspector's style marking on the left side near the breech.

Rating Definition:

Good with spurious inspection marking on the left side of forward frame. The barrel has a mottle brown patina ,and the action and buttplate have a darkened, aged patina. The wood is very good and has only a few minor dings and scratches. The action markings are partially faded, and the action functions very well.
