Only 700 of these rifles were manufactured; all but 100 were purchased for use by the Navy. Most of the rifles were used to arm Marine guards aboard ships and some were used on gun boats on the Mississippi River. It is marked "SHARPS / & / HANKINS / PHILADA." on the right side of the receiver and "SHARPS / PATENT / 1859" on the left. There are matching serial numbers on the lower tang, barrel, and some of the breech components. There is a replacement blade front sight on the original sight base, and the rear sight is the standard adjustable sight found on the various Sharps & Hankins variants. The bayonet is marked "COLLINS & CO./HARTFORD/CONN." on the left ricasso, and "1861" is on the right. The back of the grip has "06."

Rating Definition:

Good as restored. The refinished barrel is an even plum brown with light overall oxidation/pitting. The buttplate has an aged patina, and the remaining components have light refurbished case colors with most intact. The wood has some minor marks and edge wear. The re-engraved markings are mostly clear, and the action functions fine. The bayonet has speckled brown patina and bright surfaces on the blade and an aged patina on the handle.
