Description:

This elaborately engraved rifle features an adjustable "D.R.G.M." marked rear barrel sight and an empty dovetail at the front sight position. The upper barrel flat forward of the breech features delicate foliate engraving with silver inlay and an inlaid blank silver inscription plate. The Martini style action is casehardened with broad leafy foliate engraving on the sides, breech block, underside and tangs. Both sides of the action feature small portraits of men in German clothing bordered in light floral engraving inlaid in silver. The portraits themselves are also silver inlaid. The upper tang is mounted with an adjustable aperture sight with a large diopter made for interchangeable apertures. The action lever is engraved similarly to the receiver. Fitted with double set triggers. Amazingly this is a meffert type takedown model with both the barrel and floorplate being removed by the use of engraved levers on the underside. Mounted on an elaborately carved Schnabel forearm and carved stock with a large Swiss style cheekpiece and casehardened Schuetzen style buttplate. The buttplate, breech block, and barrels all have matching serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 80% of the original blue finish on the barrel and 65% of the original muted case colors on the receiver, lever and buttplate. The barrel shows a few small dings and general handling marks. The receiver has some light edge wear, areas of light brown spotting, and a dark aged patina on the silver inlay. The wood is fair with a 1/4 inch wide strip absent from the right side of the forearm, and a 2 3/4 inch hairline crack on the left side of the forearm. The buttstock shows indentations throughout with spider web cracking of the original varnish finish. Mechanically very good.
