Description:

The Hammerli/Martini target rifle was considered the most accurate rifle of its type and a number were purchased and modified by Springfield Armory to meet U.S. Rifle Team requirements. This rifle is very similar to the 1928 International Match model. Fitted with a 31 1/2 inch heavy barrel with globe front sight and Lyman 48 receiver sight. The forearm is attached to the barrel by a wedge. The interior of the forearm is fitted with a recess for a spare firing pin and spring. The rifle has the Tyrolean cheekpiece Schuetzen style stock, double set triggers, palm rest trigger guard, and adjustable butt hook. The barrel is drilled, tapped and mounted with Unertl type scope blocks with 7 1/2 inch spacing. The receiver and barrel are serial numbered "497", and the butt hook is numbered "1351" and "1344". The butt hook is also marked with a small Swiss cross and the number "101632".

Rating Definition:

Very good with 99% of the original blue finish on the barrel and receiver. The underside of the receiver has a section of plum patina, as does the action lever. The buttplate has aged to a mostly plum patina with some areas of darker blue, spotting, light pitting and scratches. The rail on the underside of the forearm has been partially wood filled. The buttstock shows some small cracks at the frame junction on the right and left sides as well as some deeper scattered indentations. Mechanically very good.
