Description:

Around 30,000 New Model 1859 carbines were manufactured with iron furniture and a patch box. This example has the standard marking and features other than the absence of a saddle ring and bar on the left. A small group of carbines near this serial number range are known to have been purchased by the Navy without saddle rings.

Rating Definition:

Fair as refinished. The barrel has an even, light artificial brown patina and light pitting. The action has primarily dark brown patina, traces of silvered out case colors, patches of mild pitting, and some cold blue. The undersize, reoiled wood has some minor dings and a chip at the tail of the lock. The action functions fine, and the markings are mostly crisp.
