Description:

This high quality case has a blank silver inscription panel on the lid, dark green velvet lining on the interior, hole for the standard Colt L-shaped screwdriver/nipple wrench, has three compartments with lids and antique ivory knobs, and is French fitted for a pair of Colt Model 1851 Navy small guard revolvers and the included bullet mold and flask. Most cases for Colt percussion revolvers were English fitted, but French fitted cases are known with some high end presentation revolvers. The powder flask has raised floral designs and is marked "G & J. W. HAWKSLEY/SHEFFIELD" on top and has two compartments on the bottom. Hawksley flasks are known to have been shipped with Model 1851 Navy revolvers but were less commonly used than those by James Dixon & Sons. The bullet mold is the scarce early style with brass body, unfinished "COLT'S/PATENT" and "W" marked iron sprue cutter, round ball and conical bullet chambers, and "A" stamped on the left arm.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall. The case has some very minor cracks and repairs on the lid, minor warping on the upper left corner, light overall storage wear, and some minor compression marks and small tears on the interior. The accessories are all very good to fine. It is very difficult to find one of these very important double casings separate of a pair of high grade 1851's!
