Description:

This civilian version of the 1851 Navy was manufactured after the Civil War in 1866. Colt's percussion revolvers were popular with many pioneers heading to the West in the second half of the 19th century where access to the self contained cartridges was limited. Wild Bill, Doc Holiday, and many others trusted their lives to their Navies. It is equipped with a non-factory, period installed German silver blade front sight on a dovetailed based and has the standard hammer notch rear sight. The barrel is marked with the "NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA" address, and the left side of the frame has the "COLTS/PATENT" marking. The trigger guard has "36 CAL" on the left, and the matching serial number is marked on the various components (wedge not numbered). The smooth grip has the partial serial number "7403" written in the back strap recess.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains 40% of the bright original blue finish especially on the lower portions. The finish on the cylinder has faded to a gray-brown patina. Significant, but subdued, original case colors remain on the frame. Traces of original silver plating remain in the protected areas of the grip frame, and the exposed brass has an aged patina. There are some spots of minor oxidation and slight pitting scattered throughout and various small dings and scratches. The revarnished grip is good with moderate edge and handling wear. The action functions fine, and the markings and roll scene are clear.
