Description:

Consignor note: One of only three known boxes. The box is marked "50 No. .41" cartridges "FOR/COLT'S NEW DERRINGER/And other Pistols of that Calibre." The picture lid label is of a Colt Thuer Derringer and is royal blue with the sides having an orange band. The previously opened box is preserved in plastic wrapping and reported to be full. The .41 rimfire cartridge was incredibly popular in small pocket pistols in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The 130 grain lead bullets are propelled by 13 grains of black powder, and only delivered 52 foot pounds of force. However, the guns worked admirably as an easily carried form of intimidation that would ward off the vast majority of would be assailant without a shot fired. The Union Metallic Cartridge Company was formed in 1867.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall as opened. The box has minimal storage wear primarily at the edges. This is the finest accessory one could acquire for their Colt Derringer collection!
