Description:

This Colt Single Action Army revolver was manufactured in 1940. The revolver has the Colt commercial blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame and loading gate are color casehardened. The top of the hammer is blued and the sides are polished. The trigger is niter blue. The two-piece, black, checkered, hard rubber grips have the Rampant Colt trademark embossed in an oval at the top. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "COLT"S PT.F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line. "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY.357" is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt 'Two-Line/Three-Date' patent markings followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with the assembler's mark "4" above the Colt 'Triangle/VP' proofmark. An "F" inspection mark is stamped in the hammer well above the firing pin hole. A five-pointed star is stamped on the face of the cylinder between the chambers. The serial number "357100" is stamped on the bottom of the frame and on the right side of the trigger guard and back strap underneath the grip. The partial serial number "00" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. "357100" is scratched on the inside of both grips. All of the visible serial numbers match. The assembly number "843" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate and on the right end of the frame beneath the grip. The revolver is complete with the original royal blue cardboard carton with blue and white end label marked: "5 1/2 Colt's Army S.A. Revolver./RUBBER BLUE/.357". The revolver serial number, "357100" is written in grease pencil across the bottom of the carton below the label. The carton interior has a Colt advertisement printed on the bottom and glued on the lid. The carton contains: (1) test target serial numbered "357100", (2) "SHOOTING SUGGESTIONS" pamphlet, (3) "SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS" folder and (4) brown tissue wrapping paper. This is one of the last Single Action Army revolvers manufactured before Colt ceased production of this model at serial number 357859 in June 1940.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus in original box. The revolver retains 98% plus of the original blue and 98% vivid color casehardened finish, the cylinder shows only faint traces of turn marks between the stops. The frame and loading gate have vivid case colors with slight dulling on left recoil shield. The markings are perfect. Both of the hard rubber grips are in new condition. The carton exterior is in very fine overall condition. The royal blue covering is flaking slightly on the ends of the carton. The blue and white end label is in excellent condition. The carton interior, wrapping paper, pamphlet flyer and test target all remain in excellent condition. This is a near new example of one of the very last Colt Single Action Army revolvers manufactured by Colt before production ceased in June 1940. Complete with matching original factory box and test target. This exceptional Colt Single Action Army .57 Magnum Revolver would be difficult to improve upon.
