Colt only manufactured approximately 7,366 Model 1883 shotguns between 1883 and 1895. This example was manufactured in 1893 and features a single brass bead sight on the "COLTS PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD CT U S A" marked solid rib. The action has lightly engraved borders and accents. The bottom of the action is marked in script: "PATENTED/AUG 22. SEP 19.1882". The basic, lowest grade engraving patterns extend to the trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware. The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, water table, barrel flat, forearm, and forearm hardware. Additional features include double triggers, a tang mounted automatic safety and a multi-point checkered walnut splinter forearm with ebony forend insert and pistol grip stock with a Colt embossed checkered hard rubber buttplate and silver initial oval. The chambers measure 2 3/4 inches and have an extractor. The barrels are choked improved modified and full. Additional barrel and stock measurements are: Bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .719/.719 inches; Wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .050 inches; Drop at comb 2 1/4 inches; Drop at heel 3 inches; 0 cast; Length of pull 14 1/8 inches.

Fine as partially refinished (wood). The barrels have 80% very strong, visible Damascus patterning, and have aged to a mostly gray patina with some darker areas of brown finish on the rib. The frame shows 40% of original case colors mostly in the more protected areas and the balance having a smooth nearly uniform, aged gray patina. The wood is very good as refurbished with refreshed checkering, scattered small indentations, and a small repaired chip on the left side of the wrist near the safety. Mechanically excellent.
