Colt only manufactured approximately 7,366 Model 1883 shotguns between 1883 and 1895. This example was manufactured in 1887 and features a single brass bead sight on the "COLTS PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD CT U S A" marked solid rib. The action has lightly engraved borders and accents. The bottom of the action is marked in script: "PATENTED/AUG 22. SEP 19.1882". The basic, lowest grade engraving patterns extend to the trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware. The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, water table, barrel flat, forearm, and forearm hardware. Additional features include double triggers, a tang mounted automatic safety and a multi-point checkered walnut splinter forearm with ebony forend insert and pistol grip stock with a Colt embossed checkered hard rubber buttplate and silver initial oval. The chambers measure 2 3/4 inches and have an extractor. The barrels are choked improved modified and full. Stock measurements are: Drop at comb 2 inches; Drop at heel 3 5/8 inches; 0 cast; Length of pull 14 1/4 inches.

Fine as refinished with 80% of the brown finish. Showing some light muzzle wear and scattered small dings mostly along the barrel rib. The frame shows traces of original case colors with the majority aged to a smooth gray patina with some small areas of brown spotting. The wood is very good as repaired. Exhibiting a break at the wrist, scattered small indentations, well-defined checkering, and rich color. Mechanically excellent.
