The revolver has a nickel finish with a gold plated cylinder. The top strap is marked "HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG. CO./XL No. 4/PAT. MAR. 23, 1871 APR. 27 1878" flanked by wedges of scrollwork. The left side of the barrel is marked "MERWIN HULBERT & CO./NEW YORK" surrounded by scrollwork. The revolver is fitted with pearl grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 90% of the original nickel finish showing light flaking. The cylinder retains 30% of original gold in the protected areas of the flutes. The grips are excellent with a slight surface chip near the bottom (right panel). The pearl has a very attractive color. Mechanically excellent.
