Description:

The upper barrel is rifled and marked "F. MIGLEIN N." towards the rear and "I/JJ" at the breech. It has a dovetailed brass blade front sight and a notch rear sight with a folding leaf. The lower barrel and locks are unmarked. The letter "H" carved into the stock behind the trigger guard tang. The stock also has a sling swivel and sling stud, a wooden patch box, and cheekpiece. Franz Miglein (1735-1793) operated out of Weiner Neustadt (translates to roughly New Vienna) south of Vienna. The city is home to one of the oldest military academies in the world: the Theresian Military Academy (1751-present) founded by Maria Theresa.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrels and locks have extensive scattered heavy pitting and a gray patina. The brass furniture has an aged patina. The left lock's flash pan is split near the screw. The stock is fine and has various scrapes and dings along with a crack extending from the tail of the left lock around to the right side of the upper barrel tang. The patch box is also chipped at the tail. There have been some alterations performed over the years as suggested by the current lack of useable ramrod slots despite corresponding grooves in the forend fittings. The locks function fine.
