Description:

This pair of pistols were manufactured in the first part of the 19th century. The pistols are marked with "C. LANCASTER LONDON" on the bottom of the locks, "GWR" over two star symbols with floral designs and two crossed flags in between and "NEC TEMERE NEC TIMIDE" ("neither rashly nor timidly") below at the center of the locks, and "CHARLES LANCASTER LONDON" on the top of the barrels. There is also scrollwork and border patterns on the various components aside from the Damascus barrels. The breeches have platinum bands and liners, and the checkered stocks have carved horn forend caps, silver wedge escutcheons and thumbplates, and steel buttcaps. The pistols have fixed blade and notch sights, smooth bores, plain triggers, and sliding half-cock safeties. Gun A is numbered "503" on the trigger guard tang, and gun B is numbered 502.

Rating Definition:

Good. The Damascus patterns remain visible on the barrel which has a mottled brown patina, light oxidation, and mild pitting. The lock has traces of case colors and a brown patina and some slight pitting. There is strong original blue finish on the sliding safety and protected areas of the trigger guard. Most of the period refurbished blue remains on the buttcap. The silver has a lightly aged patina. The stock is very good with crisp checkering and carving with some scattered minor dings and scratches. The lock functions excellently, and the markings are crisp throughout.
