Description:

Measuring 14 3/4 inches overall, this knife is fitted with a 10 inch clip point blade with no visible maker's mark. The one piece cast brass hilt is fitted with a dual quillion guard and a ribbed grip with the interior hollow to accept a 3/4 inch diameter shaft with a rectangular locking lug. With a black leather sheath with brass fittings. According to notes provided by the consignor, this spear head was reportedly among the Confederate equipment at Port Hudson and was captured by Union forces that held the Port under siege. The longest siege in American military history at 48 days, the victory of the Union over Port Hudson, the final Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River, cut the Confederacy in half and freed the Union to put commercial and military traffic on the full length of the river.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The blade appears lightly cleaned with some minor spotting, a few patches of pitting, and mild handling marks. The brass shows an attractive aged patina with a few dents, and the sheath has some mild cracking and scuffs.
