Description:

This pistol was manufactured by either Thomas Wilhelm or Bernard Pistor of Schmalkalden north of Suhl in what is now the state of Thuringia in Germany. The pistol appears to have been produced in the mid-18th century. "PISTOR" is marked at the center of the lock which has some light engraving designs including a bestial face at the tail. The lock has a slight "banana" shape, is heavily bevelled, has a slender gooseneck cock, and a Germanic style pan. The barrel has a brass blade front sight with floral accent and three "wedding bands." The vent sits a little low in the pan. Floral blooms are engraved on the brass furniture. The stock has raised flats and accents, including a rib down the spine of the grip and extending all the way from the muzzle, along the sides of the ramrod channel, and around the trigger guard to the butt. The wooden ramrod has a horn tip.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and lock remain mostly bright and have some spots of brown patina and pitting. The brass has an honest aged patina throughout. The stock is also very good with some dents, dings, and light scratches and crisp carving. The lock functions fine, and the maker's mark and engraving are distinct.
