British Artillery Pattern 1861 Percussion Musketoon with Asian Markings

Manufacturer: Enfield
Model: Percussion
Type: Carbine
Gauge: 58
Barrel: 24 inch round
Finish: brown
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1520

Description:

The lock is dated 1866 and marked with the "crown/V*R" stamp at the tail. The only other markings are British proofs on the left at the breech and a series of what appear to be Chinese markings on the right side of the stock and the buttplate tang. Similar musketoons with Asian calligraphy have been previously been reported as used during the Boxer Rebellion. It has a blade/bayonet stud front sight, notch rear sight with two folding leaves, and mostly brass furniture.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel is refinished over scattered pitting. The iron has a dark patina and some moderate pitting. The refinished wood is also fair and has various light scratches and dings. The lock functions fine.
