Description:

The founding date of Ecritt & Wilson is not clear, but the partnership was dissolved on August 9, 1853. This rare shotgun's bore measures exactly 1 inch at the muzzle and has a brass post front sight, beautiful Damascus barrel with a pair of English proofs on the bottom, "ECRITT & WILSON MAKERS SHEFFIELD" on the concave rib on the breech section, "ECRITT & WILSON" on the lock, English scroll engraving, and a walnut half stock with horn forend tip, checkering, and a steel buttplate. Large bore shotguns like this were used for hunting large and dangerous game including elephants and were popular among the Boers in southern Africa. They were also sometimes used by market hunters with bird shot to take groups of fowl in a single shot.

Rating Definition:

Very good as refurbished. The barrel displays beautiful refinished twist patterns and the other components have gray and brown patina and some traces of case colors. The stock is very good as lightly sanded, refinished, and recheckered. The lock functions fine and the markings are mostly crisp.
