Description:

This attractive shotgun is marked "KreiSser" in script on the right lock and "in Leipzig" on the left lock. The locks also have game scenes and border engraving with scroll work and animal heads on the hammers. The breech end of the barrels and the upper tang also have coordinating engraving patterns. The barrels have a blade front sight and a dished rear sight is at the breech. The concave rib is inlaid with a golden arrow and the barrels have "CANON TORDU (left)" and "FER DE FAUX (right)" meaning inlaid in gold. The barrel markings confirm that they are made of twisted and forged iron (Damascus). The engraved thumb plate is marked "vB." The half stock has a carved wolf's head at the forend tip with inlaid eyes partially made of pearl, checkering and pin patterns on the forend and grip, and cheek piece with floral carved accent and a molded edge, ebony buttplate with bone screw escutcheons, and an ebony trigger guard with grip extension, checkering, and floral carving. Sling swivels are mounted to the rear ramrod ferule and bottom of the butt. The left barrel gauges extra full, and the right is the equivalent of improved modified. The length of pull is 14 inches. The ramrod is absent.

Rating Definition:

Good with broken left hammer (spur absent). Nearly all of the original gold inlay remains. The barrels have a thin brown finish and visible twist patterns. The case colors on the locks and breech have silvered out. There are some spots of light oxidation and pitting. The wood is fine with a sliver absent at the right side of the forend and some small chips, crisp carving, various light scratches, and distinct checkering. The lock functions very well but the left hammer spur is broken. The markings are crisp throughout.
