Description:

Measuring 19 1/2 inches in overall length, the dirk is fitted with an 13 1/4 inch double fuller blade with a filed spine, an attractive carved hardwood grip with the traditional basket weave patterns, silver plated metal furniture covered in oak leaf and thistle designs, a raised carving of a military cap backed by a pair of crossed basket hilt swords on the reverse, and a clear stone set into the pommel. The traditional fork and knife set is also present, with a deep orange stone on the knife pommel, a clear stone with light peach backing on the fork, and spring loaded retention locks on both. Additional oak leaf and thistle motifs are present on the sheath, with a leather body and "79" on the throat. While not documented, the "79" might indicate ownership by a member of the 79th Regiment of Foot (Cameron Highlanders), also known as the Cameronian Volunteers and the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, which participated in the Peninsula Campaign, the Battle of Waterloo and both World Wars.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall. The otherwise very fine blade shows some mild spotting and a mixed gray patina, with light high point wear on the silvered furniture and a few small chips and dings on the grip. One of the accent pins in the grip is absent, and a few of them show mixed colors, possibly being replacements, and the pommel stone is chipped. The sheath shows mild scuffing on the leather, and both the fork and pocket knife are in similar condition to the dirk.
