Description:

1) Yataghan short sword, 25 5/8 inches overall, with a 19 3/4 inch curved single fuller blade, an engraved and silver finished brass half-moon guard, and a one-piece smooth grip. With a silver and leather fitted scabbard, decorated with a raised wyvern on the throat and an African king on the mid-band. 2) Large clip-point knife, possibly Malaysian, 17 1/2 inches overall with an 11 7/8 inch blade, decorated with brass enhanced leafy scroll and floral designs, and "LCU Ban/T.BaBISTa"(sic) on the right ricasso. The grip is constructed from a single piece of black/green horn, which has been extensively carved into a spiraling leaf pattern, capped off with a pair of silver ferrules, the pommel ferrule decorated with a three-dimensional floral designs. The sheath is constructed in a similar manner, with engraved and repoussed floral designs on the throat, an elaborate cut-through floral motif on the obverse face of the main body, and light checkerboard designs on the reverse face. Included with the lot is a copy of "The Antique Bowie Knife Book" by Adams, Voyles and Moss.

Rating Definition:

1) Good. The blade shows some mild spotting and areas of gray patina, and the grip shows mild age cracking and fine color and grain. The silver has aged well, with some scuffing and cracking of the leather. 2) Very good. The blade has been lightly sharpened, and some minor handling marks are visible overall.
