Description:

This revolver was designed by Eugene Lefaucheux, son of Casimir Lefaucheux who invented the pinfire system. His revolvers and copies of them were used in several European conflicts in the mid-19th century and were also imported and used in the U.S. and C.S.A. during the Civil War. The Union purchased around 12,000 during the war and millions of rounds of ammunition making the Lefaucheux fourth in use to Colt, Remington, and Starr revolvers. A large number were also used by Confederate soldiers. The consignor indicated this revolver falls into the Union serial number range (source unknown). It has a bead front sight, hammer groove rear sight, smooth grips with engraved designs on the nuts, and a lanyard loop on the butt. The right side of the frame is marked "LF 35982," and the left side has "E LEFAUCHEUX" in an arch.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 40% of the original blue finish remains. The balance has gray and brown patina. There is some light spotting and minor marks from use and storage. The front sight is loose in its dovetail. The grips are very good and have numerous small scratches. The action functions fine, and the markings are crisp.
