This very fine example of a William Tranter patent 577 caliber solid frame revolver is marked with the "FREDERICK T. BARKER LONDON" retailer marking on the top strap. The left side of the frame has the Tranter patent marking and serial number. The front of the frame has the caliber marking: "577/GAUGE." The upper left barrel flat has two British proofmarkings. Additional British proofs are stamped on the chambers of the church steeple fluted cylinder. The cylinder has a detachable rear plate. All blue finish and fitted with a checkered grip. The left side of the grip has a crown/B marking. The felt lined case comes with a bottle of Rangoon oil, oiler, cartridge block, powder measure, cleaning rod with attachment case key, and two 577 caliber bullets. Around 1853 Tranter began patenting and producing his own firearms. Most of his designs were revolvers. Tranter built two variations of his 577 caliber revolver. One, like this example, had five cylinder chambers and the other had six cylinder chambers.

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% bright original high polished blue finish thinning to a brown with a smooth gray patina mostly on the trigger guard. The grip is very fine with some scattered minor blemishes in the overall crisp grip. Mechanically excellent. The case, which does not properly fit the revolver, is very fine as relined.
