Description:

This is an excellent original example of a desirable early-production DWM Model 1900 Commercial Luger pistol that falls into the documented serial number range of the U.S. Army Test Eagle Luger pistols, but this is not a Test Eagle Luger. These pistols were the true first commercial contract Luger pistols produced by DWM and can be found in the 2000-19000 serial number range. This pistol is an earlier mid-production pistol. It has the standard blank chamber area with the DWM logo on the front toggle. This early pistol has the Commercial "Crown/N" proofs on the right side of the pistol on the barrel extension, breechblock, toggle assembly and underside of the barrel, which, interestingly, is also stamped "7.6 m/m". The majority of these pistols ended up on the U.S. market, having been stamped with the American Eagle crest over the chamber, and the word "GERMANY" stamped somewhere. However, this example is not stamped with either of those and since it is marked with the caliber on the underside of the barrel, it was probably sold in Europe. This pistol has all the early desirable Luger features such as the early long frame, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, recessed breechblock, 4 3/4 inch fast tapered barrel, grip safety and no stock lug and this example has been fitted with the later hold-open device. The early Lugers have a pre-war rust blue finish, straw colored small parts, and checkered walnut grips. The lower safety area is unmarked and blued. It is correctly serial numbered in the commercial fashion with the serial number under the barrel and on the front of the frame. It is complete with one original magazine with the nickel-plated body and the unnumbered wooden base.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus of the original blue finish with some slight wear/thinning and the muzzle area, front frame rails and side plate hump. The various small parts retain 90% plus of their straw colors overall showing light wear on the edges with some slight fading on the flats. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice distinct/sharp checkering on both sides. An exceptionally nice early 1900 Commercial Luger pistol.
