Description:

Introduced in 1936, the new pattern of SS dagger supplemented the original 1933 dagger with the caveat that the '36 pattern was intended specifically for those considered to be an "SS Man", an officer or a minimum 3-year enlisted veteran. Measuring 13 1/2 inches overall with the 8 1/2 inch double edged spear point blade showing the acid etched "Meine Ehre heisst Treue" (My Honor is Loyalty) motto on the obverse and the Boker "tree" logo on the reverse. Nickel finished alloy cross guard and hilt, with the SS rune medallion and national eagle inlaid into the ebony grip and a silver portapee with solid acorn wrapped around the guard and grip. The sheath is black enamel finished with nickel fittings showcasing the distinctive swastika patterned middle band and chain hanger (2 links front, 4 links back). The dagger was purchased directly from Lt. Col. John McKenna, an officer of the 75th Division who obtained it from an SS officer on his way to Dortmund in the encirclement of Army Group "B" commanded by Field Marshall Model, better known as the Ruhr encirclement. The dagger was purchased from him around 1991 at his home in Medford, Mass.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, with some light spotting on the otherwise excellent blade, mild wear of the portapee, and light handling marks overall. Most of the original paint remains on the scabbard.
