Description:

Introduced in 1934, the field cap was intended for daily wear, and underwent a number of changes along with the rest of the SS uniform. The overall pattern is close to the Heer field cap, but with the front decorated with a second pattern alloy "death's head" button marked "RZ/M", "(double sig runes)" and "63" on the rear and a second pattern SS eagle patch on the left side of the flap. The interior is lined with black herringbone cloth, with "VA/1938" and "56" stamped in white ink, a cloth SS/RZM tag marked "Vom/Reichsfuhrer SS/befohlene/Ausfuhrung" and a RZM tag bearing the hersteller number "A.1-104" and serial number "022270". Notes from the consignor, which included a signed picture of this cap, state it was from the collection of Michael D. Beaver, author of the three volume set "Uniforms of the Waffen-SS".

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall. A few light stains are visible on the eagle, and some light handling marks overall. The interior stamps are all strong and legible, and the labels are solid. A rare, original, early style SS Field Cap.
