Description:

Formerly a double decal, the outline of the shield clearly seen on the other side. The "single decal" pattern emerged in 1940, when general orders were given to remove the German Tricolor shield. The decals as a whole would be ordered off in 1943, though many soldiers retained the decals they already had. Stamped steel construction with rolled edges and integral vents, with no decal on the left side and a silver and black "SS" on the right. The interior of the skirt is stamped "911" and "ET62", the chinstrap marked "LIEFG:GEN/WIRTSCH.-GEB/1940", and the brown leather webbing hand-marked "Peter" in the front and the rear. No information is available on "Peter" at this time.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, totally original with some light scuffs and wear on the metal, showing some of the brown, aged underlying steel, with some smooth wear on the lower edge. The SS runes are 90% solid, with a few light scuffs and a slight yellowing of the silver. The leather is good, with some cracking of the strap and tears in the webbing.
